2. I'm level 50 - Now what?
You've finally reached level 50 on your first character and now everyone is talking exclusively in abbreviations and telling you to get a template
Congratulations! The hero’s journey is complete and you’ve reached level 50! But now you find yourself lost and confused: “What do I do next?” “Where do I go?” “What is a template?” “How do I kill even more Lurikeens?” Well put all your fears and doubts aside because once again, I, the great and mighty Varnarok, is here to help you! As usual this guide will primarily be relevant for the Eden fan-project server however it can be relevant in part to other servers.
If you have already read my Beginner’s Survival Guide to Dark Age of Camelot, then this guide will recap a lot of quests that are required for gearing up at max level which can be started prior to level 50.
Note that due to Eden’s seasonal nature, some of the parts in this guide can be considered less relevant if joining mid- or late-season where loot is more plentiful on the market compared to early in the season where quest rewards are more powerful. Each section will contain a small note at the end describing how relevant the rewards of that section is for mid- to late-season players, so that you might pick and choose which to do should you be short on time (or simply prefer not to do certain parts).
Let’s begin!
PART 1: Finding (or creating) your template
Before anything else: “Template“ is Dark Age of Camelot’s version “Best-in-Slot list“ from other MMORPGs. However, unlike in most MMORPGs a size-able portion of your end-game gear in DAoC will come from crafters, typically around 3-4 pieces of armour. Otherwise it will simply not be possible to max out all (or at least most, depending on your class) of your stats, resistances, etc.
For a beginner, I would recommend simply finding a template and going for that as your first. You can worry about creating your own later on when, for instance, you get a high utility ROG drop from one of the end-game dungeons. Each “Class Profile“ page on this website will have one or more templates available for you to choose from. [CLASS PROFILES (TEMPLATES COMING SOON)]
Alternatively you can find community made templates on [daoctools.net]
Should you desire to give creating your own template a go, here is a full guide on how to do just that: [TEMPLATE]
PART 2: The Quest For Loot
The King’s Quest
We’ll start off with your “Epic Quest.“ This is a medium length quest-line which takes you across the Shrouded Isles and out into the frontier zones in order to unlock your class’ “Epic Armour,“ a full set of armour with a unique appearance and decent stats for any beginner. Certain steps of this quest-line will require at least a small group.
To begin, simply head to your realm’s capital city and find the NPC called Royal Guard with <Throne Room> underneath their name and talk to them to enter the throne room. Once in there, head straight until you find the king and talk to him to begin your quest. The king will have several quests available that will be covered later on in this guide but for this section, the quest you are looking for is called: “The King’s Quest (Epic)“
For a detailed guide on how to complete this quest-line, check out these guides:
NOTE: Epic Armour can overall be considered quite a bit weaker than loot you can get from raids or end-game dungeons. There are certain stand-out pieces, which depending on your template, might be useful. The quest-line is worth completing for the unique appearance of the armour, which you can use for transmog/glamour/skinning.
Here is a quick guide to changing an item’s appearance: [TRANSMOGRIFICATION]
Rites of Spring
Another quest available is the “Rites of Spring” quest, commonly referred to as the “Bunny” quest due to the nature of the enemy you have to fight in it: The dreaded rabbit of Caerbannog.
| REALM | TOWN | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Castle Sauvage | Sir Yvain |
| Hibernia | Druim Ligen | Fionn mac Cumhaill |
| Midgard | Svasud Faste | Sinfjotli Sigmundarsun |
Adds are periodically summoned throughout the fight, some of which are capable of crowd controlling the player characters. This fight requires at least a full group but forming a battlegroup for more players will make it easier. Completing this quest will reward the player with a bracer.
NOTE: The reward for this quest is a mediocre bracer which does not see much use mid- to late-season. Skip this if you wish.
Medal of Honour
Next up is the “Medal of Honour“ (“MoH“) quest. Called “The Great Hunt,“ this quest will see you explore your realm’s end-game zone where you will hunt dangerous creatures before finally taking a quick trip out into the frontiers to slay the final foe. The quest can be picked up from the following NPCs:
| REALM | ZONE | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Llyn Barfog | Reve |
| Hibernia | Cursed Forest | Dylan |
| Midgard | Raumarik | Jessa |
This quest will require at least a full group to complete succesfully.
For a detailed guide on how to complete this quest, check out this guide: [MoH QUEST GUIDE]
NOTE: This quest rewards you with a necklace which gives +5 to ALL resistances, which can be very strong for your template. If your template does not require it, you can skip this.
Blood in the Waters
If you’re in the mood to fight even more dangerous foes, then the Megalodon (“Meg“) world boss might be for you. It can be found circling the Irish Sea in the frontiers. The quest “Blood in the Waters“ can be picked up from the following NPCs:
| REALM | TOWN | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Catterick Hamlet | Captain Gnawbie |
| Hibernia | Crair Treflan | Captain Manastrong |
| Midgard | Godrborg | Captain Snowtouch |
Megalodon has a special feature where if any bleeding effects are applied to it, a large amount of smaller sharks will be summoned and need to be dealt with. This fight requires a battlegroup of around 2 full groups or more.
NOTE: This quest rewards you with a cloak, which by itself can be quite underwhelming stat-wise but it features a unique appearance that you might be interested in for transmog/glamour/skinning.
Of Diamonds and Demons
Another notable quest available is “Of Diamonds and Demons“ (“DnD“). The quest can be picked up from the following NPCs:
| REALM | LOCATION | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Darkness Falls or Brimstone Caverns | Jenjen |
| Hibernia | Darkness Falls or Caves of Cruachan | Riesie |
| Midgard | Darkness Falls or Halls of Helgardh | Haelgi |
This quest will see you travelling through the depths of Darkness Falls in order to slay a variety of high level demons. This quest requires a group.
NOTE: Completing this quest rewards you with a jewel, a ring and a hat, of which the hat is bar far the best reward. The hat is very strong and can be found in quite a lot of templates, so consider doing this quest alongside the “CL5“ quest mentioned below.
The King’s Champion
One of the few secondary paths to power that made it over from Live to Eden are Champion Levels (“CL“). On Eden you can reach Champion Level 10, granting you an addition 20 Hit Points per level and 1 Champion Level skill point to spend on a variety of basic skills from other classes.
An easy way to gain a quick 5 Champion levels is to do the quest “The King’s Champion,“ available from, you guessed it: The king. To begin, simply head to your realm’s capital city and find the NPC called Royal Guard with <Throne Room> underneath their name and talk to them to enter the throne room. Once in there, head straight until you find the king and talk to him to begin your quest. If this is your first time talking to the king, several quests will be available but the one you are looking for is called: “The King’s Champion – Into the Halls.“ This quest will take you into demon-infested halls in order to slay the mighiest of demon lords who are plotting to seize control of the land.
Alternatively, if you are short on time, it is possible to forego speaking to the king and simply heading straight into the demon halls and picking up the quest directly from the following NPCs:
| REALM | LOCATION | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Brimstone Caverns | Anataeus |
| Hibernia | Caves of Cruachan | Keeper Garran |
| Midgard | Halls of Helgardh | Keeper Iraeda |
Either way, you will be heading into your realm’s demon halls to slay several demon lords and you will be rewarded with five scrolls, each of which will give you one full Champion Level. If you are not sure what to spend your Champion Level skill points on, each Class Profile page on this website has a recommendation: [LINK TO CLASS PROFILE PAGE]
NOTE: Champion Levels are gained just like regular levels; by simply earning experience. If you do not wish to do this raid, there are other ways of gaining Champion Levels, like simply grinding them out or by doing other quests.
Writs & Bounties
If you’re feeling adventurous, you can accept several Bounty quests, called the “Bounties of Albion/Hibernia/Midgard“ in-game but commonly referred to as “writ” quests, which can reward you with access to raid merchants without having to complete the raids or Champion Levels. Writ quests can be picked up from the following NPCs:
| REALM | TOWN | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Catterick Hamlet | Captain Gnawbie |
| Hibernia | Crair Treflan | Captain Manastrong |
| Midgard | Godrborg | Captain Snowtouch |
The writ quests will take you all over the frontiers in search of powerful unique enemies.
NOTE: If you do not wish to do much PvE, these quests are a semi-alternative. You will still be fighting NPCs but there is always the chance of running into enemies while out and about in the frontiers. As mentioned previously, this is one way of unlocking access to raid merchants, which is where you will buy the majority of your gear for your template. Granted you will still need to either do the raids for currency or trade/pay someone else for the items you want. This is also a way of earning Champion Level scrolls, meaning you do not have to grind it out.
Raids
Time to look at raids: There are seven raids currently available on Eden. These are: Darkness Falls (“DF“), Summoner’s Hall (“SH“), Celestius (“ML10“), Krondon/Tur Suil (“TS“)/Iarnvidiur’s Lair (“Iarn“), Avalon City (“AC“)/Fomor/Trollheim (“TH“), Caer Sidi (“Sidi“)/Galladoria (“Galla“)/Tuscaren Glacier (“TG“) and finally Aerus City “(ML9“). Most raids have an associated quest that unlocks access to that raid’s merchant. Each boss within the raid gives a set amount of currency related to that raid which can be spent at the merchant near the entrance to buy items which drop from the bosses of the raid. These quest NPCs are:
| REALM | Zone & NPC | Zone & NPC | Zone & NPC | Zone & NPC | Zone & NPC | Zone & NPC | Zone & NPC |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Albion | Darkness Falls (Lacustan) | Summoner’s Hall (Anzi) | Celestius (Captain Chryse) | Krondon (Starla Thorleye) | Avalon City (Royce Aldene) | Caer Sidi (charlemagne Pristleye) | Aerus City (Kirana) |
| Hibernia | Darkness Falls (Teonvan) | Summoner’s Hall (Elnir) | Celestius (Captain Chryse) | Tur Suil (Fionna Yorke) | Fomor (Sionn Shannoni) | Galladoria (Benan Nolani) | Aerus City (Kirana) |
| Midgard | Darkness Falls (Thulder) | Summoner’s Hall (Thusnilda) | Celestius (Captain Chryse) | Iarnvidiur’s Lair (Solfrid) | Trollheim (Gleb) | Tuscaran Glacier (Svorgin) | Aerus City (Kirana) |
These quests, barring the Celestius one, are all available inside their dungeons. Celestius is available from Aerus Haven in Oceanus Notos in Atlantis, which you can reach by travelling to Atlantis and taking the green boat line from Hesperos Haven.
NOTE: I recommend doing the majority of these raids at least once in order to unlock access to the merchants. Krondon/Tur Suil/Iarnvidiur’s Lair and Avalon City/Fomor/Trollheim can generlaly be skipped. These raids do not have a merchant associated with them but they do have quests which can unlock some unique mythirians that your template might require.
Dragon-slayer
The final notable quest-line is the Dragon-Slayer quest-line. It consists of three parts:
Part 1: “Slaying the Dragons: Weakning the Guard“ also called “Pre“ or “PreQ“ can be picked up from the following NPCs:
| REALM | ZONE | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Dartmoor | Koz (outside Grimspound) |
| Hibernia | Sheeroe Hills | Cailean (outside Tailtiu) |
| Midgard | Malmohus | Storr (outside Svarhamr) |
This quest will take you on a trip around your realm’s dragon zone to kill a variety of high level enemies in order to prove your loyalty to the dragon-slayer factions. Completing this quest changes your reputation from aggressive to friendly with the inhabitants of Grimspound/Tailtiu/Svarhamr and allows you access into their town.
To easily get to this quest, teleport to one of the following destinations:
| REALM | DESTINATION |
|---|---|
| Albion | Yarley’s Farm |
| Hibernia | Innis Carthaig |
| Midgard | West Skona |
Then make your way toward’s your realm’s dragon zone, making sure to give any enemies along the way a wide berth and finally talking to the NPCs mentioned above outside the town, near the bindstone.
Part 2: “Slaying the Dragons: The Adolescents“ also called “minis“ can be picked up from the following NPCs inside the dragon-slayer faction’s town:
| REALM | TOWN | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Grimspound | Los Ortiz |
| Hibernia | Tailtiu | Chareos |
| Midgard | Svarhamr | Amaravasa Das |
This quest will take you for a round trip across your realm’s dragon zone, followed by a journey out into the frontiers of each realm. This quest requires at least a full group and forming a battlegroup can make it a lot easier, especially in the second half. This quest rewards you with a full set of dragon-slayer armour.
Part 3: “Slaying the Dragons: The Final Hunt“ is the final step on your journey and can be picked up from the following NPCs inside the dragon-slayer faction’s town:
| REALM | TOWN | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Grimspound | Grogotos |
| Hibernia | Tailtiu | Azure Sonfinin |
| Midgard | Svarhamr | Raxnathor |
To complete this quest, you simply have to kill your realm’s dragon. The dragons have several mechanics, including breath attacks, teleporting players out of the area and summoning several adds which, if not killed, will run away and bring back even stronger adds. This quest requires a large battlegroup consisting of several groups to successfully complete. This quest rewards you with a dragon-slayer weapon of your choice, as well as access to the dragon-slayer vendor.
NOTE: I recommend doing this quest-line as templates generally require one or more items which drop from your realm’s dragon, so unlocking access to the merchant can greatly help you.
PART 3: Keeping Busy
If you’ve done all of the above and still find yourself bored, then worry not! There is still plenty to do, either by yourself or with a small team!
If you do not wish to run raids over and over in order to farm the currencies that you need for your template items, then you can choose to either earn currencies through quests in the frontiers or earn the money that you need to buy/trade for your items. Note that most of these quests take place in the frontiers and as such reward not only their shown rewards but also Realm Points and Bounty Points.
Gold
To earn money in the frontiers, travel to your realm’s frontier town:
| REALM | TOWN |
|---|---|
| Albion | Catterick Hamlet |
| Hibernia | Crair Treflan |
| Midgard | Godrborg |
And talk to the chubby little Avarice Imp. He will offer you three “Frontier Fortune Seeker“ quests, which will reward you with a grand total of 1 platinum (1000 gold) if you complete all three. Completing these quests is simple: Just travel to the designated zones and kill the associated enemy.
| Pennine Mountains or Snowdonia | Ravenclan Giant |
| Breifine | Finliath |
| Jamtland | Frore Lich |
These quests are typically done together and collectively referred to as “1P“ (short for 1 Platinum). This can be done solo for a lot of classes but generally requires a small group. This quest is repeatable.
Currencies
To earn raid currencies in the frontiers, seek out the Returned Desert NPC in the frontier town, who will offer you three “Supply Runner“ quests. Completing these quests is very simple as all you have to do is reach the designated area, find the box of supplies and return to the same NPC.
| Hadrian’s Wall | Folley Lake |
| Emain Macha | Moydrium Castle |
| Odin’s Gate | Trellebourg |
The challenge lies in fighting or avoiding enemy players who are doing the same mission. Once you’ve returned to the NPC, you will be offered a reward of different raid currencies of your choice. This quest is strictly solo but can be done simultaneously with others. This quest is repeatable.
You can simultaneously complete the quest “Should You Be So Lucky,“ also offered by the Returned Deserter, in which you search the same three locations for an Otherworldy Essence to bring back.
There is also the “Demons & Dragons“ quest available, requiring a quick trip around the frontiers in search of infernalists and dragon minions. This guest is available daily.
Crafting
If you want to relax a bit and maybe catch up on some shows, then perhaps you’ll want to level crafting. If not for eventually crafting items then at least until all your secondary crafting skills reach level 600, at which point you can salvage items you don’t want or need into raw materials and create trinkets to sell to vendors for a profit.
There is a full set of armor available which will improve your crafting abilities, such as increasing strength to be able to carry more materials in your inventory, increasing crafting speed and more. This quest is available from Maven the Wise Crafter in your realm’s capital city, near the tradeskill trainers. Here are guides to completing this quest-line on each realm:
Here are detailed guides to crafting and salvaging:
[CRAFTING GUIDE (COMING SOON)]
Farming
Maybe you’ve levelled Alchemy and want to start creating potions for yourself and your guild, or perhaps you just want to help your guild alchemists out, so you decide you’re going to farm some high-end crafting materials. There are several areas you can farm the materials you need, here is a short list of a few places to consider:
| REALM | ZONE | DUNGEON |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Dartmoor, Llyn Barfog, Lyonesse | Stonehenge Barrows |
| Hibernia | Bog of Cullen, Cursed Forest, Sheeroe Hills | Coruscating Mines |
| Midgard | Malmohus, Raumarik, Vanern Swamp | Spindelhalla |
Perhaps you would instead prefer to farm some gold in your downtime, which is primarily done through either farming high level items from a variety of high level monsters in order to salvage and trinket them, or by farming diamond seals from high level monsters in Darkness Falls, which can then be used to purchase items for salvaging.
You will of course also make quite a bit of gold during either method due to all enemy monsters dropping some when they are killed.
Your class will be a significant factor in how well you will be able to farm high level enemies. Here is a quick tier list over classes and their solo farming potential:
| ALBION | HIBERNIA | MIDGARD | |
|---|---|---|---|
| S | Friar | Vampiir | Bonedancer |
| A | Necromancer, Occultist, Reaver | Valewalker, Warden | Savage, Valkyrie |
| B | Cabalist, Mercenary, Mauler, Paladin, Scout | Animist, Blademaster, Champion, Enchanter, Mauler, Ranger | Berserker, Hunter, Mauler, Thane, Shaman, Spiritmaster |
| C | Cleric, Minstrel, Sorcerer, Theurgist, Wizard | Druid, Eldrtich, Mentalist | Healer, Runemaster, Skald, Warlock |
| D | Armsman, Infiltrator | Bard, Hero, Nightshade | Shadowblade, Warrior |
PART 4: Dungeons & ROGs
One area in which Eden has sought to bring Dark Age of Camelot into the more modern MMO-sphere is with the repurposing of zones into new high-level endgame dungeons. These dungeons reward some of the highest utility ROG items in the game, some of which can be the perfect part which allows you to upgrade your template with increased stats.
Sobekite Eternal
The first of such dungeons is Sobekite Eternal (“Sobe“), which veteran players might remember as the dungeon in which players complete the second Master Level trial from the Trials of Atlantis expansion. On Eden it has been redesigned, no longer requiring a battlegroup but now limited just a single full group.
To unlock the dungeon, you will have to complete a short pre-quest: [SEEKING THE SOBEKITE]
A full guide to Sobekite Eternal can be found here: [SOBEKITE ETERNAL (COMING SOON)]
Kobold Undercity
The second endgame dungeon added to Eden is the Kobold Undercity (“KU“), which veteran players might recall as being the Kobold capital city from the Catacombs expansion. Compared to Sobekite Eternal, the Kobold Undercity features a gimmick in which all bosses inherently cause fear in pets.
To unlock the dungeon, you will have to complete a short pre-quest: [LIBERATING THE UNDERCITY]
A full guide to the Kobold Undercity can be found here: [KOBOLD UNDERCITY (COMING SOON)]
PART 5: RvR
All of the above is of course ultimately in the service of going out into the frontiers and earning a name for yourself. Whether you prefer going at it solo, with just your closest friends or as a single cog in the great machine of whirling blades and arcane explosions, there is something for everyone out in the frontiers.
Solo
Quests like the above mentioned supply runner quests are great for fomenting one-versus-one action.
Group
There are timed missions available from NPCs in the frontier towns which, when accepted, will allow similarly sized groups to know your general location and zone.
| REALM | TOWN | NPC |
|---|---|---|
| Albion | Catterick Hamlet | Sir Galvon |
| Hibernia | Crair Treflan | Galeay |
| Midgard | Godrborg | Jarl Maeyck |
Commands like “/lff fq“ (Looking For Fight Fight Queue) will queue your group up for fights against similarly sized groups in instanced battles.
Additionally, every 45-50 minutes or so the King of the Hill (“KoTH“) event will begin. As the name implies, several teams of eight players will fight for control over a central area and the team with most time within the flag’s control area will win the event. If you or your group leader uses the “/lff“ (Looking For Fight) command then you will be notified around 3 minutes before the event starts and asked if you want to join the automated groupfinder.
Battlegroup
Last but certainly not least, there is the great zerg. It welcomes all no matter their race, class, spec or gear. Simply use the command “/who BG“ to find open battlegroups and then use “/join bg <name>“ to join up. After that it’s just a matter of heading out into the frontiers, finding or founding a group within the battlegroup and crushing all enemies before you.
