Privacy

We set no cookies, show no advertising, and have no way of working out who you are. The one exception is the tip form on the support page, which belongs to Ko-fi and is described below. What follows is the long version, but that is the whole of it.

What we measure

We count visits with Umami, which records the page you looked at, the site you came from if any, your browser and operating system, your country, and your screen size. It sets no cookies and stores nothing that identifies you or follows you to another site. The data is held in the European Union and deleted after six months.

If your browser sends a Do Not Track signal, we do not count you at all.

Server logs

The site is hosted by Vercel, whose servers record requests — including IP addresses — for a short period, as every web server does. We do not read these except when something is broken.

Ko-fi, on the support page

The support page embeds a tip form from Ko-fi. That form is theirs, it does set cookies, and anything you type into it goes to them and not to us — we never see a card number or an address. It loads on that page only. The Ko-fi button at the foot of an article is an image on our own server, so reading an entry does not contact them. Their privacy policy covers what happens once you use it.

Video

Where an entry has a video it is embedded through YouTube’s no-cookie domain, which does not set cookies unless you press play. At the time of writing no entry on the site has one.

What we do not do

• No advertising, and no advertising networks.
• No cookies of our own — none, anywhere on the site.
• No tracking you from one site to another.
• No accounts, so nothing to sign up for and nothing to leak.
• Nothing sold or passed to anyone.
• No fonts fetched from Google. They are served from this site, so reading a page tells Google nothing.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you may ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, object to it being processed, and complain to your country’s data protection authority. Write to us at the address below and we will do what we can — though in practice we store nothing that could be matched to you, so there is rarely anything to hand over.

Who we are

Varnarok Games is run by Michael Friis and Victoria Lazarova as joint controllers. Michael writes and publishes; Victoria builds and runs the site. Neither of us is a company and this is not a commercial operation.
