Salvaging
Some men just want to watch the world get turned in 21 arcanium bars
Introduction to Salvaging
You’ve probably heard people talking about salvaging (or “trinketing”) as a means of making money and thought to yourself: “What is salvaging? I also want to be rich and famous like these other people!” or something to that effect. Well, salvaging is exactly what it sounds like: Salvaging items and turning them into crafting materials, which you can then turn into “trinkets” which sell for more than the base value of the materials used than if you were to simply sell the materials to a vendor.
So now that you know that, you probably rushed to tab back into the game and find the “Salvaging” tradeskill. Well, it’s not there. Salvaging is done through the secondary crafting skills: metalworking, woodworking, leatherworking and clothworking.
And before you go rushing off to just level these secondary crafting skills by creating trinkets, it is important to know that you cannot level any secondary tradeskill higher than one of your primary tradeskills.
When you craft any item from a primary tradeskill, you get the levels in secondary tradeskills corresponding to the materials used. For instance, if the item you are crafting requires metal and wood, you will get points in metalworking and woodworking.
The goal is to reach at least 1000 skill in each secondary tradeskill in order to get the most materials in return from each salvage.
800 would technically be enough able to salvage the highest level of items, just would diminished gains.
The total cost of this is only approximately 300 gold.
Eden specific
On Eden, tradeskills are realm-wide and do not get reset when new seasons launch. So you only need to do this three times at the most, if you want to be able to salvage on all three realms. Even if you delete all your characters on a realm, your tradeskill progress remains.
Make sure that you have overlays enabled in the Eden launcher, which will allow you to use the “/ecraft” command to open a unique tradeskill window. This will show you all your tradeskills in single handy window, as well as allow you to buy crafting materials directly via the button in the bottom right (if you are within reasonable distance of the merchants which sell the required items).
Levelling your tradeskills
Before you begin, please note that in order to level your secondary tradeskills most efficiently, you must follow this guide in the exact order it is presented.
You will start by levelling Alchemy, as it is very cheap to level, and then level secondary tradeskills directly.
Alchemy:
| 1-350 | Orange/Red poisons until they become Yellow/Blue |
| 350-380 | Weak Elixir of Healing |
Clothworking, Leatherworking, Woodworking & Metalworking:
| 1-380 | Craft whatever is orange until something red turns orange, then craft that and repeat. No need to be picky, the cost difference between anything at this level is negligible. |
Fletching:
| 1-90 | Blunt Arrows |
| 90-400 | Bodking Arrows |
| 400-500 | Broadhead Arrows |
Tailoring:
| Albion | 1-400 | Alternate between Roman, Cymric and Siluric gloves and boots |
| Hibernia | 1-400 | Alternate between Brea, Constaic and Cruaigh gloves and boots |
| Midgard | 1-400 | Alternate between Mjuklaeder, Svarlaeder and Starklaeder gloves and boots |
Weaponcrafting:
| 1-380 | Crafting whatever is cheapest, typically daggers, fang graeves, round shields, hand axes. |
Armorcrafting:
| Albion | 1-380 | Alternate between Studded, Boned and Lamellar studded leather gloves and boots |
| Hibernia | 1-380 | Alternate between Tacuil, Nadurtha and Caillocht studded leather gloves and boots |
| Midgard | 1-380 | Alternate between Stelskodd, Svarskodd, Starkaskodd studded leather gloves and boots |
Introduction to Trinketing
Now that you have become capable of efficient salvaging, you can begin turning the crafting materials you get into “trinkets.”
For the different secondary tradeskills, these are:
| Metalworking | Bracket, Gem Studded Jewelry Box, Hinge, Small Lantern, Wrought Jewelry Box |
| Woodworking | Breadboard, Carved Souvenir Box, Curio Box, Toy Sword, Whistle |
| Leatherworking | Bridle, Riding Crop, Saddlebag, Scabbard, Tooled Leather Saddlebag |
| Clothworking | Bedroll Pillow, Doll, Puppet, Ruffled Scarf, Scarf |
Some of these recipes are just “bulk” versions of others, using ten times the materials to save on inventory space and time spent crafting.
| Hinge, Small Lantern, Wrought Jewelry Box | Gem Studded Jewelry Box* |
| Breadbox, Curio Box, Toy Sword, Whistle | Carved Souvenir Box |
| Bridle, Riding Crop Saddlebag, Scabbard | Tooled Leather Saddlebag |
| Bedroll Pillow, Doll, Scarf | Ruffled Scarf** |
*Metalworking Brackets only cost a single metal bar, while all other non-bulk recipes require two.
**Clothworking Puppets do not require any leather, unlike other recipes.
Simply craft whichever you prefer and then sell the items you produce to a vendor for a tidy profit.
How to get items to salvage:
There are two primary methods of obtaining items to salvage: Drops from enemies and buying items with currencies.
Drops:
Any named enemy you kill is guaranteed to drop one or more items, these can be any kind of item, including accessories which cannot be salvaged. Only weapons, shields and armour pieces can be salvaged.
The largest concentration of named enemies are typically found within dungeons:
| Albion | Stonehenge Barrows | |
| Hibernia | Coruscating Mines | |
| Midgard | Spindelhalla |
Regular enemies can of course also drop items, it is just not guaranteed. If you are a class capable of killing even-levelled enemies quickly, then that might be worth your time too. This will also give a chance of acquiring alchemy reagents, depending on the enemies you kill.
Seals:
Another common way of acquiring items for salvaging is to buy emerald/sapphire/diamond seals from people, typically for 1/3/12 gold respectively.
These seals can be farmed within Darkness Falls, with the type of seal dropped depending on the level range of the enemy killed.
These seals can be used to buy equipment from the imps within Darkness Falls, who can be located down the large stairs from the entrance and in one of the side rooms. If you meet any Plated Hulks or Infernalists, you’ve turned in the wrong direction.
Buy whichever equipment you can afford (ideally metal weapons), the difference in terms of seals-to-material ratio is negligible to the point of being counted in coppers.
