Beginner Guide: Fighter
The master of arms and armour
Fighter
This guide was based in part by Quivo’s beginner video for Fighters.
Why play a Fighter?
Sometimes you don’t want to be the elf wizard or the goblin rogue. Sometimes you just want to be the human knight who wields a longsword and shows all these other races that humanity is the dominant force on the planet for a reason.
Fighter is a class that will feel familiar to a lot of players. They are similar to the Warriors from World of Warcraft, the Armsmen/Heroes/Warriors from Dark Age of Camelot, and of course the Warriors and Guardians from EverQuest 1 and 2.
As a Fighter, you will be the anti-physical tank, relying on skills that increase Defense, reduce physical damage taken and reduce enemy armour class. You will also have access to traditional physical-based skills, such a Clobber which stuns enemies, Intimidation which causes enemies to temporarily flee, Kneebreaker which slows enemies. Shield Bash also allows you to interrupt enemies and Charge is there for closing gaps.
You are a pure melee class, with the exception of Challenging Arrow, which allows you to pull enemies from afar. No magic, just pure strength of arms.
Fighters are relatively simple in terms of gameplay. You are a strong candidate for the role of primary tank. You look at what is on screen and you make sure that it is looking back at you. If something starts to run, you chase it and stop it.
In conclusion, pick Fighter if you want a straight-forward class that doesn’t require you to manage or recover spell-books, who has high group potential and doesn’t require you to look at party frames.
Starter Quest: Night Harbor
Before we begin: You can always reference what NPCs have told you by accessing your journal (default key: J) and you can always ask follow up questions to them by simply targeting them and writing in Say chat, as if they were players. For instance: “Where can I find [key word]?”
Read the Note of Recruitment in your inventory. Fedamius Steele III can be found inside the Steel Talons Garrison. From where you start, do a complete turn around and enter the garrison behind the portcullis and gate. Click on the portcullis to open it and head inside, turn right and go up the stairs. Swing around the left once you’re up and Fedamius will be right there on the rampart, overlooking the courtyard. Hand him your Notice of Recruitment and he will ask you to speak to his sister, Lurinda Steele.
Head back down again and turn left to cross the courtyard. On the other side of the courtyard, Lurinda will be inside the small melee training corral on the left. Hand her the Notice of Recruitment and she ask you to go to the garrison’s library and talk to her son, Elrind Steele.
Head back towards the courtyard and turn left, entering the large open doorway with the two blue banner. Once inside, go straight through the room and into the corridor opposite the entrance, then take the second right into the library and hand Elrind your Notice of Recruitment. He will hand you a charcoal, a parchment and Elrind’s List, asking you to collect four items:
- Frottage of the Tel Saman standing stone
- A snake’s fang
- A skeleton’s jawbone
- A fire beetle’s eye
All of these can be found just outside the garrison, with the Tel Saman standing stone being near the entrance to the Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane dungeon. Kill snakes, skeletons and fire beetles until you have their three items, then head towards the dungeon.
The Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane can be found by exiting the West Gate and turning right, then crossing the ruins diagonally until you reach a small camp with several burning torches outside. The dungeon is within the narrow passage in the cliff.
Use the command “/rub inscription” when standing next to the unbroken pillar to receive then final item you need and then head back to Elrind within the garrison’s library and hand him all four items. He will ask you to bring his research to his mother, Lurinda, back out in the courtyard’s melee training corral.
Hand her Elrind’s Research and she will give a pack, which she tasks you with filling with six Ashira Warrior Bracers. Ashira Warriors can be found within the Shaded Dunes. To get there, simply exit the Garrison and follow the cobblestone road back to West Gate, then turn left and continue along the cobblestone road until you read Shaded Dunes. Once there, turn right and go along the wall until you reach a small camp. Kill Ashira Warriors until you have six bracers, then put one in each slot of Lurinda’s Pack and press combine.
Return to Lurinda within the Steel Talons garrison’s melee training corral and hand her the pack. She will give you a note, which she asks you to take to her brother, Fedamius up on the ramparts. Return to Fedamius and hand him Lurinda’s Note and your Steel Talon Trainee Tunic.
Congratulations! You are now done with the Fighter starter quest-line for now.
