Beginner Guide: Elementalist
Master of the Elemental Plains
Elementalist
This guide was based in part on Quivo’s beginner video for Elementalists.
Why play an Elementalist?
Unlike other spell-casters, perhaps you want to work in harmony with the elements rather than simply channeling their power on a whim. Elementalists represent a symbiotic relationship between mage and the elements they beseech for power.
Elementalists are spell-casters who are defined by their pets, of which four will be available to you, one for each element:
- Air: These pets will apply a group-wide aura which gives each group member a 10% chance to perform an extra hit with either their main- or off-hand weapon.
- Earth: These pets are more durable than the rest and are good for when you are solo and need a tank. They also give your group an aura which increases the group’s stamina.
- Fire: These pets will apply a group-wide aura which increases the spell casting speed of your group members by 10% as well as applying a damage shield.
- Water: These pets will apply a group-wide aura which increases mana regeneration for your group that stacks with other sources of mana regeneration.
You will have each pet unlocked by time you reach level 12.
The variety of these pets allow you to be quite flexible, being able to switch pet depending on your group’s composition or for what an indivudal might require. The utility you bring to the group through your conjuration of basic items will also be unrivaled. You will be able to conjure bread, water, bandages, four different weapons and even a ring of waterbreathing.
When played solo, Elementalists are still a very strong class. Your earth pet will be able to tank for you while you focus on damage, in between supporting your pet as needed.
Your primary damaging ability will be your Elemental Blast spell, which not only deals damage but also has a secondary component to it, depending on your currently active pet.
- Air: Reduce enemy casting speed
- Earth: Slow enemy movement speed
- Fire: Damage-over-time
- Water: Reduces enemy attack speed
Companion Strike is a spell which uses your own mana to empower your pet, causing it to perform an attack.
Elemental Empowerment is a buff which you apply to your pet, giving it increased attack speed, increased intelligence for more damage and causing it to regenerate health for as long as you maintain the spell.
With these spells and more, it becomes clear that Elementalists are a very flexible class, with a lot of variety in terms of play-style.
To play an Elementalist effectively, you will need to monitor your pet and micromanage it to a degree, while also maintaining your own mana levels. This can be a bit daunting for a lot of players and might not be what they are after, though it is compensated slightly but the relatively simple play-style of the Elementalist itself.
Starter Quest: Night Harbor
Before we begin: You can always reference what NPCs have told you by accessing your journal (default key: J) and you can always ask follow up questions to them by simply targeting them and writing in Say chat, as if they were players. For instance: “Where can I find [key word]?”
Read the Humble Note in your inventory. Enter Night Harbor through the West Gate in front of you and continue down the road in front of you until you reach Seabreeze Park. Head down into the park and turn slightly to the right, crossing the park diagonally until you reach a doorway in the wall. Head through the door and circle around to the right until you reach the stairs. Go up the stairs and inside the build, around circular pit and down the stairs opposite the entrance. Follow the stone tunnel and walk along the ledge until you reach the area with the blue floor, where Tenebrim Tam stands. Hand Tenebrim your Humble Note and he will give you a Pinwheel, a Box of Elemental Incense and a Small Velvet Bag. He will then task you with going around the city and offering incense to the elementals in return for their pearls.
The first elemental is nearby. Jump down the platform opposite Tenebrim and walk to the opposite wall where there is a small scarab on the wall. Your pinwheel will start spinning, which indicates that you are in the right spot. Open your inventory and pick up the Box of Elemental Incense, then use the command “/place incense” to receive the earthen pearl.
Place the pearl within the Small Velvet Bag and then go through the small cave passage to the right of the scarab. Turn right in the next room to exit and then take another right to wrap around the exit you came out of. Follow the cobblestone road and take a left turn at the brazier. You will arrive in a small courtyard with a well inside it, near the well will be a pedestal with a jackal statue on it. Go to the statue, pick up the box of incense and use “/place incense” again to get the aqua pearl.
Looking at the jackal statue, head forward to the left, through the gate back out into the streets and take a right. Head up the stairs in front of you to the left, at the top take another left. Continue forwards a short distance before turning right back into the Elementalist area. Go near the stairs and turn left, then go through the gate and continue forwards across the bridge until you reach a fork. Turn right in the fork and continue along until you reach the blacksmith’s forge, near which will be another scarab on the wall. Go to the scarab, pick up the elemental incense and use “/place incense” to get the fiery pearl.
The final pearl is quite a distance away at the top of the mage tower. From the blacksmith’s forge, turn back and face the way you came, towards the building with three yellow banners. Go towards the building and take the left path around the it, then take the first left through the bazaar, cutting across near the cobbler and out the other side, turning slightly to the right and exiting through the arch back onto the main road. Turn right towards Seabreeze Park, then left at the entrance to the park and along the cobblestone road until it turns right towards the Sageside. Follow the cobblestone road, up a small ramp, across a bridge and through the keyhole arch. Turn left past the arch and head up the stairs and through the gate with the large floating pink crystal above it. Cross the large plaza towards the pink-purple mage tower in the distance, going up a large staircase until you reach the floating tower. There will be a small stone platform under the tower with a glowing bright pink platform on it. This is a teleporter and is how you will traverse the tower.
Step onto the teleport platform to teleport into the tower, then turn around and head up either of the small ramps that are behind you before continuing up the large ramp towards the teleporter under the large blue crystal, within the stone circle. Once you arrive, head to the right and go up a ramp, then take an immediate left to enter the tower and make your way to the teleporter on the arched stone platform. Next head up the spiral ramp until you reach another teleport platform. Step onto it and when you arrive at your new location, turn around and head outside to step on the final teleporter. Once at the top, take a few steps forward to find the osprey statue. Pick up the elemental incense from your inventory and use the command “/place incense” to receive the airy pearl.
Place all four pearls within the Small Velvet Bag and press combine. Then head back to Tenebrim Tam and give him the Velvet Bag of Pearls, along with the Pinewheel, Box of Elemental Incense and your Fourfold Sash. He will then give you a Simple Brass Coin which you can hand back to him to start the next part of the quest-line.
REQUIRED LEVEL: 3
Hand Tenebrim the Simple Brass Coin and he will instruct you to bring him several items:
- 2 fire beetle glands
- 2 bone chips
- 2 bat wings
- a water flask
Fire beetle glands, bone chips and bat wings can all be acquired outside either the West Gate where you started, or the North Gate. To reach the North Gate, retrace the steps you took to get to the mage tower in Sageside but stop at the well in the center of the square and turn left. The North Gate will be right in front of you. I would recommend the West Gate, since the Water Flask you need can be purchased from Halrinn Grimsul, the innkeeper of the Shaded Bloom Inn.
Head outside your preferred gate, kill enemies until you get the six items Tenebrim requested of you, then make your way back inside to the West Gate. Looking out of the city, turn right and head down the cobblestone street and take the first right turn possible through a small door with a pointed white canopy. Once inside, turn left and go to Halrinn behind the bar. Right-click him and purchase a Water Flask for four copper coins.
Once you have everything, return to Tenebrim and turn in the seven items you’ve gotten to him along with your First Degree Fourfold Sash. Place one item in each hand in slot, and he will give you a Reinforced First Degree Fourfold Sash in return and tell you speak with Pedram who is in the room just behind Tenebrim to the left.
Talk to Pedram and say “I am here for the tests.” He will then brief you on the trials ahead and when you are ready, say “I am ready.” Pedram will then hand you a Red Crystal, which you will use downstairs in the training area to summon your first elemental foe. Once you have killed it, loot its Fiery Essence, which you will give to Pedram and he will give you the next crystal.
Continue like this until you have killed all four elemental types, at which point Pedram will give you a Note for Tenebrim. Take the note to Tenebrim who will give you four elemental essences. Choose one and hand it back to him along with your Reinforced First Degree Fourfold Sash. Give the remaining essences back to Tenebrim afterwards and he will give you a Crushed Malachite in return for each essence.
Congratulations! You are now done with the Elementalist starter quest-line for now.
