Lough Gur
A MELANCHOLY SHADOW HAUNTS THIS LAND, FOREVER MOURNING LOST GLORY
Lough Gur, named for the lake in its center, is the frontier of the people of Hibernia’s attempts to drive the malicious spirits and sprites from the land. Despite being a land with little in the way of fields or meadows, Lough Gur is home to a large population of wild horses, both mundane and magical, some of which are malicious, some of which are not. This in many ways mirrors the conflict found here. A crossroads of many things. It was also here that the Celts first beat back their ancient enemy, the Faerie Queen, forcing her to flee north until she was eventually pushed all the way back to the Cursed Forest.
Should an adventurer find their way here, then they had best stick to the road until they reach the end of it. Here they’ll find the town of Innis Carthaig, a well supplied border town which harbors a dark secret.
In the far north west, deep within the forest, is a great hollow tree known as Culraid. Some sense of safety can be had here.
There is much evil here. Demons jump across the Veil, evil spirits inhabit the creatures of the land and in the far west, deep in the forest, is a hole in the land. The locals call it Treibh Caillte but who or what dwells there is anyone’s guess. The locals who have gone to investigate have never returned and as far as the rest are concerned, there is nothing worth risking their lives for in that part of the forest. The lake protects the town from dangers from the west anyway, better to focus elsewhere, especially when great roars is heard just across the road.
