Mauler

THE IRON FIST

AVAILABLE ON: Live

Followers of the god Laresh, deity of virility and physical prowess, this priestly caste have been bestowed with knowledge of the earth far surpassing that of Albion’s most prestigious Wizards. Gravity, magnetism and the auras surrounding everything created of the earth are the tools that the students of Maulatous manipulate in their search for physical perfection. Their weapons are their hands and feet, through which they channel the power of the earth to unleash devastating blows with their sanctified fist wraps and ornate steel-tipped staves.

Maulers are the first (and only) class available to all three realms. They are a lightly-armoured hybrid melee/spell-caster with access to variety of self-buffs, de-buffs, snares, roots and two unique weapons, the Fist Wraps and the Mauler Staff. They also have a unique power generation mechanic, the Gift of Perizor, which requires the Aura of the Farseer to be active in order for it drain power from the enemy target. In PvE, this ability does not regenerate a very significant amount of power, making playing as a spell-caster a somewhat tedious experience.

PvE:

Melee Maulers perform as would be expected when playing solo, able to dish out a lot of damage but still requiring frequent rests while levelling.

Caster Maulers perform significantly less well when attempting to level without a group due to the unique way in which Maulers generate power.

In groups, Maulers are strong damage dealers. With the assistance of their group’s tanks and other support, spell-caster Maulers are able to easily keep their power levels high so that they can continuously cast their spells. Irregardless of your chosen skill specialization, just make sure you wait for the tank(s) to grab aggro on the enemies before beginning your attacks.

RvR:

Maulers are strong solo duellists. They have access to a highly synergetic kit of offensive abilities, allowing them to very quickly burst down enemies. This is in addition to also having a very strong set of single-target de-buffs with which they can cripple enemy melee fighters.

In groups, Maulers are exceptional damage dealers, both as spell-casters and melee fighters. As a spell-caster, your primary concern will be the management of your power pool since if you manage to deplete it, you will be just barely more useful than if you had simply stayed home. To aid in this generating power, Maulers in RvR can place a short buff called Tegashrig’s Arbitration on a friendly player, ideally one who is about to receive a lot of damage. This buff will convert damage received by the friendly player into power for the Mauler and can be maintained on two friendly targets at once. With power generation secured, it is time to unleash your extremely high single target damage on the enemy group, ideally the same target as your group’s other spell-casters who are capable of de-buffing an enemy target’s magical resistances. Should the situation require it, a spell-caster Mauler also has access to a bit of crowd control spells, such as roots and snares.

Melee Maulers are have both high damage and great utility abilities. When starting combat, you will be able to apply a Matter resistance de-buff to your target, which will strongly synergise with your high level Fist Wraps combat styles, mainly Gut Shot and Phoenix Strike, both of which have Matter damage components attached them. If also self-buffed with Gift of Precision for increased weapon skill, melee Maulers become capable of extreme bursts phases.
