Beginner Guide: Shadow Knight

The Dark Hunter

This guide is crated in part based on Quivo’s beginner video for Shadow Knights.

Why play a Shadow Knight?

Maybe wearing heavy plate armour isn’t enough, maybe the plate armour needs to have spikes and skulls on it as well. And it has to be painted black.

Shadow Knights are tanks which have access to magic aimed at sustaining yourself, debilitating your foes and spurring your minions group members on to fight harder.

The Soul Servant pet’s attacks and the Soulrend spell will steal the target’s health to refill your own. Spirit Break will lower the enemy’s resistance to Corruption, Holy and Magic. Palpitation will apply both damage-over-time and an agility de-buff to your enemies. Theft of Vigor will transfer an enemy’s strength to you. Aura of Vampirism will give your group a chance to drain the enemy’s life as well on melee and ranged attacks, and Aura of the Unholy increases Holy resistance for your group, while increasing the Shadow Knight’s threat generation and parry chance, while also buffing you should your health fall below 25%.

Invisibility versus Undead and Lull the Dead are your anti-Undead spells.

Grip of Shadows pull enemies towards you, ensuring there is no time wasted before beginning the fight.

Shadow Knights perform all right when played solo due to their heavy armour, increased defence while wielding a two-handed sword for extra damage and copious amounts of life drain abilities.

In groups, Shadow Knights are tanks who specialize in debilitating the enemy and draining life in order to ensure their survival, should the healers struggle.

In closing, pick Shadow Knight if you want to be the anti-Paladin, taking life instead of beseeching the gods for it, while swinging a large sword and dragging around a lost soul.

Starter Quest: Night Harbor

Before we begin: You can always reference what NPCs have told you by accessing your journal (default key: J) and you can always ask follow up questions to them by simply targeting them and writing in Say chat, as if they were players. For instance: “Where can I find [key word]?”

A full list of beginner tips can be found [here].

Open your inventory and memorize any spells you might’ve started with, then read the Weathered Note.

Directions to: Exavius Deathwhisper

From the North Gate, enter into the city and turn right. Continue on through the large arch with the floating pink crystal above it and down the stairs. At the bottom turn right through the keyhole arch and cross the small bridge before turning right towards the Concourse of Souls necropolis. Head down into the small valley and turn left towards the necropolis. Once inside, turn right through the doorway and then right again, going up two short ramps before turning left and seeing Exavius Deathwhisper.

Hand him your Weathered Note and he will ask you to see Brazzic Durraim downstairs in the sleeping quarters.

Directions to: Brazzic (from Exavius Deathwhisper)

Head back to the way you came and when you return to the large room at the entrance, run across it and through the opposite open doorway. Travel down the ramp on the right and take the first left turn. Brazzic will be in the room that is through the second door on the right.

Hand him the Weathered Note and he will ask you to collect femurs from skeletons and deliver a note to Noel Klares.

Location of: Skeletons

Skeletons can be found just outside the necropolis. If the area is filled with other players, skeletons can also be found outside both the North and West Gates.

The North Gate was where you started.

The West Gate can be reached by going back up the ramp on the right as you exit the necropolis into the small valley, going onto the cobblestone road and following it until you can take a left turn and then taking the second turn to the right and continuing straight forward until you leave the city.

Kill enough of skeletons to get six femurs and then one in each slot of the Black Leather Bag and press combine. Then make your way towards at the Wayfarer’s Hospital.

Directions to: Noel Klares

The West Gate can be reached by going back up the ramp on the right as you exit the necropolis into the small valley, going onto the cobblestone road and following it until you can take a left turn and then taking the second turn to the right.

Turn right before exiting the city. Continue forwards past the inn on your right hand side and the small square in front of the bank, which is the building with the white canopy roof. Continue straight ahead through the gate in front of you and turn left. The Wayfarer’s Hospital will be in front of you, slightly to the left.

Go inside, turn right and then left. Go through the corridor and up the ramp, then turn left and go up another ramp. Turn left and go up the final ramp and you will be on the roof where Noel Klares can be found. Handing him the Sealed Scroll will turn him hostile, forcing you to fight and kill him to loot the ring. Take care that there are no other guards nearby, as they will assist him.

Take the ring and return to Brazzic, hand him the Bag of Femurs and Noel Klares’ Ring. He will then direct you to see Buckmarr Gorstagg.

Directions to: Buckmarr Gorstagg

Return to the main entrance hall of the necropolis and cross over to the other side where you first went to find Exavius, enter the doorway and instead of turning right and going up the ramps towards where Exavius is, turn left and enter the small room. Buckmarr will be inside.

Hand Buckmarr the Bag of Femurs.
