Beginner Guide: Wizard

Master of Magics

Wizard

Why play a Wizard?

A party with a master of the arcane to guide the party? What exactly are you planning on adventuring through? A turnip field?! Of course you need a wizard! Besides, who doesn’t want to be Raistlin Majere.

Wizards are indeed masters of the arcane and have access to a wide variety of spells, as well as the unique Incantations system. The system uses Glyphs, of which there are four:

  • Mun: Arcane
  • Hil: Ice
  • Nas: Lightning
  • Dur: Fire

The first Glyph you cast serves as the base of the spell, determining its type. Then you can add up to two glyphs afterwards as Enhancements. Once you have selected up to three Glyphs, you press Spell Catalyst and the spell which combination you used will be cast. The system essentially allows you to cast spells outside of your spellbook by remembering the correct combination of glyphs for various spells. For instance, pressing Hil once and then using the Spell Catalyst causes you to cast Root. Pressing Hil and then Dur, the Spell Catalyst will result in Fireball being cast.

Some of the most powerful spells which the Wizard has access to are the various Portal spells they can use, both for themselves and their party, allowing for quick travel across the world, as well as spells which allow them and their group to teleport away from danger. As masters of the arcane, they are of course also able to Sense Magic and See Invisibility.

Wizards are a damaging spell-caster who are able to fire, ice, lightning and the arcane energies of the world to damage their enemies, and should the enemy get too close, they also have access to spells which root, knockback, slow and immobilize.

Their arcane mastery does not limit them to simply doing damage, they are also able to deprive the enemy of their magical effects through Dispel Magic and Purge, as well as increasing their own or reducing the enemy’s Fire, Cold, Electric and Magic resistances.

In closing, choose Wizard if you want to play as a powerful, pure spell-caster whose knowledge of magic is limitless, bringing both strong damage and utility while also offering an high skill ceiling through mastery of the Incantations system.

Starter Quest: Night Harbor

Before we begin: You can always reference what NPCs have told you by accessing your journal (default key: J) and you can always ask follow up questions to them by simply targeting them and writing in Say chat, as if they were players. For instance: “Where can I find [key word]?”

TIP: Before beginning your quest proper, head along the cobblestone road that leads out of the city and kill Snakes until you get two Snake Skins. These will be required later.

Read the Carefully Rolled Note in your inventory. Enter the city through the North Gate and turn left towards the pink-purple wizards tower. Head up the large set of stairs and make your way towards the stone platform in front of you. Stand on the bright glowing pink pad to be teleported up onto the teleporter hub platform above you. Turn around and head up either of the two small ramps and then up the large ramp afterwards. Stand on the teleporter and teleport to the Chartered Academy of Arcane Inquiry. When you arrive, head through the door straight ahead and you will find Olvin Viscus. Hand Olvin the Carefully Rolled Note and he will hand you an Academy Prospectus note and an Academy Folio bag. He will then ask you to gather signatures from five other wizards:

  • Veygen Antorius
  • Jabir Il-Hamar
  • Adimah Starseeker
  • Rallin Wizzentrop
  • Lanna Ivintoria

To find Veygen, head straight through Olvin’s room and turn right once you exit, going up the ramp and turning right into the room above Olvin’s. Stand on the teleport pad and Veygen will be on your immediate left once you arrive. Hand him the Academy Prospectus and he will give you Veygen’s Prosepectus.

To find Jabir, head up the spiral ramp in Veygen’s room and use the teleporter at the very top. Continue forwards out onto the balcony, then turn right and Jabir will be there, overlooking the city from a balcony. Hand him the Academy Prospectus and he will give you Jabir’s Prospectus.

To find Adimah, turn around from Jabir and take the teleporter that you passed when exiting the tower. This will send you back down to Veygen’s room. Move forwards and exit onto the balcony, turn right and use the teleporter to teleport down to Olvin’s level. Turn left and travel down the ramp, then use the teleporter in front of you to return to the teleporter hub platform. From the hub, turn left and use the teleporter marked “To the Library.” Inside the library, run forward and turn left on the balcony with three teleporters, then use the teleporter from which you can see Adimah on the opposite balcony. Hand her the Academy Prospectus and she will give you Adimah’s Notebook, which she asks you to deliver to her son, Domas Starseeker.

To find Domas, jump down between Adimah’s balcony and the balcony with the three teleporters. Wrap around the brown central pillar to the left and use the teleporter to return to the platform with three teleporters above you. Continue forwards into the room and take the teleporter on the platform in front of you to return to the teleporter hub platform. Return to the academy via the teleporter on the large ramp above you, then take the teleporter above Olvin and run up the circular ramp in Veygen’s room and use the teleporter at the very top. Domas will be on your right as you are teleported into the room. Hand her Adimah’s Notebook and he will give you a Golden-Feathered Quill, which he asks you to return to his mother. Head back to Adimah and hand her the Golden-Feathered Quill, then she will give you Adimah’s Prospectus.

To find Rallin, return to the teleporter hub platform and then back to the academy once more. Use the platform above Olvin’s room to reach Veygen’s room and run half-way up the circular ramp. Rallin can be found in a side room, hand him the Academy Prospectus and he will hand you a Delivery for Hamsar, which he asks you to deliver to the library. Head back to the library and on the platform with the three teleporters, use the right one this time. Hamsar will be in front of you once you teleport. Hand him the Delivery for Hamsar and he will give you Hamsar’s Receipt. Return to Rallin and hand him Hamsar’s Receipt, he will then give you Rallin’s Prospectus.

To find Lanna, return to the library and enter the balcony with the three teleporters. Stand on the central one to teleport down a level. Lanna will be ahead of you. Hand her the Academy Prospectus and she will ask you to bring her two Snake Skins.

Snakes can be found outside either the North Gate where you started, or the West Gate. Once you have two Snake Skins, return to Lanna in the tower’s library and hand her the skins. She will give you Lanna’s Prospectus.

Place all five signed Prospectus along with your own Academy Prospectus within the Academy Folio and press combine to create the Complete Academy Prospectus. Return to Olvin and hand him the Complete Academy Prospectus. He will give you an Approved Academy Prospectus and ask you to give it to Jabir. Hand Jabir the Approved Academy Prospectus and he will give you your Academy Student’s Robe.

REQUIRED LEVEL: 4

Equip the Academy Student’s Robe and talk to Jabir, who will tell you about a student who has not returned to the tower. Ask Jabir “Who was the student?” and he will explain that Viridon has gone missing and asks you to look for him.

For this next part, you are required to enter the Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane. For this, you will need to head to the West Gate. A group may be required for this next part. Exit the tower and cross the plaza outside towards the large gate with a floating pink crystal above it. Pass through the gate and head down the stairs, turning right at the end exiting through a keyhole shaped gate. Cross the bridge and head onto the cobblestone road, turning left at the end of it and following along it until you reach Seabreeze Park. At the park entrance, turn right and head down the cobblestone road until you read the West Gate. The Tomb of the Last Wyrmsbane can be found by exiting the West Gate and turning right, then crossing the ruins diagonally until you reach a small camp with several burning torches outside. The dungeon is within the narrow passage in the cliff.

Head inside the dungeon and kill skeletons until you receive the Scorched Academy Folio. Return to Jabir once you have the folio and hand it to him. He will then ask if you will help him investigate Viridon’s disappearance. Say “I will help you investigate” to progress the quest. Jabir will then ask you to bring the Scorched Academy Folio to Liyuna Esueiruc on the lower levels of the library. Return to the library and teleport down to Lanna, where Liyuna can be found the the same level.

Hand Liyuna the Scorched Academy Folio and she will give you a Small Note to bring back to Jabir. Once back at Jabir, hand him the Small Note along with your Academy Student’s Robe and he will give you a Gilded Academy Student’s Robe.
