Beginner Guide: Enchanter

The Master of Illusions

Enchanter

Why play an Enchanter?

Every group works better with crowd control, so every group will want you, ‘cause no one brings more of it to the table than Enchanters.

Enchanters are masters of crowd control, with strong buffs, de-buffs and more as part of their repertoire.

As an Enchanter, you are the “puppetmaster” of fights. You decide which enemies sit out the fight for later, which enemies become weakened and help create order from chaos to ensure your group’s success. It is your job to set up fights before the enemies reach the tanks, which puts you in a bit of a spotlight. Everyone will see how well you do but if you mess up or fail, everyone will see that too. It can be quite daunting for some.

You will of course also be capable of dealing damage, but it is never your primary focus. You will also be able to sustain yourself through mana drain and charm enemies to fight by your side. Charm can be a double-edged sword, taking an enemy out of the fight and helping your group, however the spell can fail which just adds another enemy to the fight.

Playing an Enchanter will requires a bit of multitasking. You will be expected to crowd control of course but you will also need to maintain those crowd controls for as long as needed, which means keeping a mental timer, since Mesmerize and Root are only a 30 second duration. It is a class with a comparatively high skill floor and ceiling.

There is rich opportunity for role-play with spells Bind Vision, Illusions and Memory Fog.

In conclusion, choose Enchanter if you like being an integral part of every group, don’t mind the responsibility and the spotlight, and love being the master of illusions.

Starter Quest: Night Harbor

Before we begin: You can always reference what NPCs have told you by accessing your journal (default key: J) and you can always ask follow up questions to them by simply targeting them and writing in Say chat, as if they were players. For instance: “Where can I find [key word]?”

Read the Torn Note in your inventory. Enter the city through the North Gate nearby, take a right and cross the plaza towards the large gate with a floating pink crystal above it. Pass through the gate and head most of the way down the stairs until you see the sign for Master Wincog’s Curious Goods shop on the left. Enter it to find Master Wincog behind the counter and hand him the Torn Note. He will hand you the Sealed Registration Note, which you have two choices with: Either hand it back to Master Wincog or do as he says and seek out Registrar Vauquelin at Spellbinders Spire.

  • Registrar Vauquelin path:

Registrar Vauquelin can be found in his office near the base of the wizards’ tower. Head back the way you came, cross the plaza past the North Gate and up the large set of stairs. Registrar Vauquelin should be somewhere nearby. Hand him the Sealed Registration Note.

Once you are done with Magistrar Vauquelin, return to Master Wincog to continue the quest along Master Wincog’s path.

  • Master Wincog path:

Hand the Sealed Registration Note back to Master Wincog and say “I’m ready.” He will then cast Mesmerize on you and teleport you away. When you are back in control, you will have to make four deliveries:

  • Ivory Inlaid Box for Bieito Brightsmile
  • Smoky Glass Vial for Mirembe Tiifu
  • Ornately Locked Book for Malory Moreland
  • Small Golden Cage for Sexton Harding

Bieito can be found right in front of where Master Wincog teleport you, standing by the tent to the left. Hand him the Ivory Inlaid Box and he will give you a Large Black Stone Egg.

Next up is Mirembe Tiifu.

From Bieito, turn right towards the large gate with two Sojourner Lookouts and head through it. Once on the cobblestone road, turn left and continue, taking the right at the crossroads. Turn left once you read the Night Market and continue on towards Seabreeze Park, turning right before you enter the park. Head down the ramp, under the bridge and through the arched gate. Turn left at the fork in the road, going up the small ramp and along the cobblestone road until you reach another fork, which you will take right. Once at the harbor, turn left and continue along the waterfront until you pass the large gate on the left where Harbormaster Daoud is. After the gate is a doorway with two arches, enter here and head upstairs, taking the first right followed by an immediate left up some more stairs. Take an immediate left turn at the top through a hallway and into a room with balcony access, head outside, turn left and jump down Mirembe. Hand her the Smoky Glass Vial and she will give you a Writhing Leather Bag.

Next up is Malory Moreland.

From Mirembe, jump down to the docks and turn right, going back the way you came all the way back to Saltbreeze Park. Once you near the park, continue straight ahead to the opposite side and turn right. At the fork, turn left and head down the sandy ramp towards the necropolis. Head inside the necropolis and take the left door, turning right and up a ramp. At the top, take the first left into the library and up the ramp on the right at the end, then down on the other side and on the right is Malory. Give her the Ornately Locked Book and she will give you a Locked 6-fold Notebook and a Scroll: Invisibility versus Undead.

Last one is Sexton Harding.

There are two ways to reach him: A long walk back to the North Gate or by using the scroll Malory gave you to avoid the undead in the Black Feather Bazaar.

North Gate: Exit the necropolis and return up the sandy ramp you took down into the valley. At the top, turn left back towards the North Gate where you started. Exit the North Gate and take a left along the city wall, navigating your way through the ruins to the corner where the city wall meets the mountain side. Hand Sexton the Small Golden Cage and he will give you a Engraved Human Skull.

Black Feather Bazaar: Scribe the scroll of Invisibility versus Undead that Malory gave you and use its effects to navigate the Black Feather Bazaar behind the necropolis. There are several paths through but exiting the necropolis where you entered and following the left hand wall around until you pass some ruins and reach a crossroads, which point you will turn right and exit outside the North Gate is the easiest. Once outside the canyon, turn right again and follow the ruins, Sexton will be in the corner near the city wall. Hand Sexton the Small Golden Cage and he will give you a Engraved Human Skull.

Now place the Large Black Stone Egg,Writhing Leather Bag, Locked 6-fold Notebook and Engraved Human Skull inside Wincog’s Delivery Bag and combine them. Then return to Master Wincog and give him the bag, at which point he will give you a Silver Key of Candor and tell you to go see Vaclav. Return towards the North Gate and continue across the plaza towards the pink-purple tower, until you reach a large set of stairs. Upstairs, underneath the tower, will be a glowing bright pink teleportation pad. Step on it to be teleported up, then turn right towards the sign that says “Grand Library” and step on the teleporter behind the sign. Once there, take the teleport pad in front of you to go down into the library, then run forwards through the illusory bookcase. Wait for a second inside the empty room to be teleported to Vaclav. Hand him the Silver Key of Candor.

From Vaclav head down the nearby stairs, then exit the door on the right. Outside turn left immediately and jump across the small wall and enter the door on the right. Inside is Jaakima who you will hand the Silver Key of Candor to.

From Jaakima, go through the open doorway behind him and head down the stairs and turn left, going straight through the open doorway across from you and past the wooden door. Turn left towards a room with a stack of boxes, in which you will find Pau and Piia. Hand the Silver Key of Candor to Piia.

For this next part, it is recommended to purchase the Invisibility spell for 2 silver from an Enchanter Scribe. You can find one downstairs. Note that it is not a requirement, just a way to avoid extra fighting.

Once you have the Invisibility spell, make your way to the West Gate. The West Gate can be found opposite Seabreeze Park, at the end of the long cobblestone road.

Head 0utside the city and turn slightly left, crossing the ruins and zoning into Shaded Dunes. Make your way down to the sea and follow the coastline all the way to the Smuggler’s Camp, which can be found after you cross a river. It is quite a long run.

Cast Invisbility and head into the camp. Enter the second tent on the right and use the “/look” command, followed by the “/inspect” command. You will receive a Ironbound Wooden Box, which you have to take back to the Night Market in Night Harbor.

Make your way back to the city and enter through the West Gate, continuing straight along until you see the Night Market sign on your right. Enter the market and turn right, passing by The Thirsty Glance and turning left down a set of stairs and immediately up another set. Mind the hold in the floor and turn left and into the building behind the wall. Once inside turn right and go down the diagonal hall and Jaimee Langris will be at the end. Hand him the Ironbound Wooden Box and make your way back to Piia.

Exit the Night Market the way you entered and turn right towards Seabreeze Park, then turn right again down towards the harbor. After you pass the gate, turn left in the first fork up the small ramp and then left again at the second fork. Follow the cobblestone road until you find a set of stairs on the left. Head up the stairs and turn right, you will now be back where the Enchanter Scribe, Vaclav, Jaakima, Pau and Piia are.

Congratulations! You are now done with the Enchanter starter quest-line for now.
