Bog of Cullen
AN ANCIENT BATTLEGROUND SUNKEN BENEATH THE MUCK AND MIRE
East of Lough Gur lies the Bog of Cullen. It is said that a great war once took place here between the Seelie and Unseelie courts of fairies but too few traces remain to tell what definitely happened here. Some speculate that the Seelie Court had gathered their many troupes here to hold a great festival and were subsequently ambushed by the Unseelie. Some say that this was simply one of many battlefields that the courts have fought over the aeons. The most popular modern theory is that both courts were invited to this place by a third party, one which both courts feared, and both were forced to hand over the magical crystals that both courts would sing to, causing them to hum with powerful energy.
The Hibernians did once push far into the land here, managing to conquer almost all of the bog before disaster struck, leaving the town of Alain Binn cut off and thought lost.
The people of Innis Carthaig in Lough Gur often hear sounds coming from the Bog of Cullen, located just across the road from the town. Some are deep and echoing, others are shrill and piercing. It is said that the piercing cries are from none other then queen Cliodna herself, the evil queen of the Bainshees.
