Friar
THE CHAPLAIN PRIMUS OF ALBION
AVAILABLE ON: Eden, Blackthorn, Live
Through patience, virtue and quiet contemplation, many things can be achieved. Even more so when pious words are backed up by measured force.
The Friars of Albion are the militaristic monastic order within the Church of Albion, though they spend most of their time in the barracks of the Defenders of Albion, sparring with Armsmen and Mercenaries alike.
Though they preach the same philosophy as their Cleric brethren, Friars do not shy away from physical violence. Afterall, sometimes the shepherd must guide his flock back home with more than just words.
Friars are one of Albion’s strongest solo classes, both on and off the battlefield. They are also strong secondary healers, with a plethora of self- and group-wide buffs to enhance the fighting capabilities of themselves and their group.
PvE:
Friar is a strong contender for Albion’s strongest solo class in PvE, if not the strongest. With quarterstaff combat styles that heal, there is virtually nothing that will kill them, save being caught unawares or falling victim to their own hubris.
In groups, a Friar’s job is the provide damage, enhancements and the occasional heal, should the party’s Cleric require assistance.
RvR:
Friars are one of the strongest duellists in the game, capable of taking on two or even three enemies at once. This is due to their strong self-buffs and ability to self heal.
In groups, Friars are typically found in a defensive-focused role, spreading their time between providing support, healing and crowd control. Think of it as your job being to provide your group’s Cleric with the freedom to properly heal or allow them to play more aggressively with their ranged stuns. If you do not need to provide support, such as curing Poison, Disease or Nearsight*, and your group’s Cleric is capable of handling the incoming damage, then you should see where you can do the most to disrupt the enemy. Either by peeling for your spell-casters with snares or by going on the offensive and disrupting the enemy however possible, just make sure to pick your battles. You are not there to secure kills, you are there to alleviate pressure so that your group’s dedicated damage dealers can kill their designated targets.
*Cure Nearsight is only available for Friars on Eden
