Jordheim

THE CENTER OF COMMERCE AND SPIRITUALITY IN MIDGARD

Compared to other capital cities, Jordheim is perhaps the most practical, focusing on what the Norsemen value most: Trade and their gods. Jordheim consists of six main areas:

The temple of the Jotun, the temple of the Aesir, the great market, the crafters’ square, the stables and the thingstead.

The temples face the great gates, with the temple of the Jotun being situated near the western gate to Vasudheim in East Svealand, and the temple of the Aesir being near the northern gate to Mularn.

Here the gothi and gythja perform rituals and rites in service of their chosen god or goddesss.

East of the temple of the Aesir is the great market where vendors, hawkers, peddlers and other enterprising individuals congregate. Wares from all over can be found here, be they crafted locally or plundered abroad.

North of the temple of the Jotun is the stables, where merchants park their beasts of burden while visiting the market. The people of Midgard are not widely known for their impressive cavalry but war horses do serve an important role in Midgard as well. In Midgard, combat on horseback was, for one reason or another, never adapted in the same way it was in Albion with their knights or Hibernia with their harassers. Instead, horses in Midgard are mainly used as transport to and from battlefields, where warriors could then dismount and get up close and personal.

South of the great market and east of the stables is the crafters’ square, where forges, looms and other such things can be found. The two great longhouses nearby provide both training, as well as every material needed, for craftsmen to master their chosen profession.

South of the crafters’ square is the thingstead. It is here that everyone with a shred of authority in Midgard meets. Everyone gathers monthly to discuss matters of great import but the great hall is most often used by the heads of two clans who, seeking to avoid a blood-feud, seek the authority of the king’s lawspeakers in settling matters without bloodshed.

Within the great hall is also king Eirik’s throneroom.
